"Victoria and Charlie
“I’ve had horses all my life. I started riding at 3 years old at a local riding school as my sister was given lessons for her fifth birthday, she sadly gave up horse riding but I’ve been obsessed ever since.
“I joined the Fife Hunt Pony Club when I was about nine years old and was lucky enough to represent the branch at both inter-branch and championship level. I have also ridden abroad and played polo at University and still enjoy the odd chukka.
“I’ve spent time working in top local showjumping yards and an Olympic showjumping yard in New Zealand but since have developed a love of dressage.
“I have spent time training with top dressage rider Gareth Hughes and am currently training with Corinna Wyse to bring on my horses to compete at British Dressage.
“My aim at the yard is to provide top-class livery and a friendly environment in which people can train and develop their skills to achieve their equestrian ambitions.”
Undici Fons (aka Charlie)
Charlie is a 17.3hh Dutch warmblood by Onze Fons. Originally bred for showjumping but deemed to be too spooky he has thrived in the dressage environment.
“I went to Holland and spotted Charlie in a showjumping yard. He was the first face that greeted me when I arrived, he was so friendly and moved with such grace that I couldn’t stop thinking about him as we looked at the other horses! He can be very quirky and more than once has had to run away from killer plant pots! He is currently competing at elementary level and I have high hopes for his future. He took a long time to grow into himself as he now stands at 17.3hh but is getting better and better with each year.”
Udara Van ‘T Speycker (aka Spyke)
Spyke is a 16.1hh Dutch warmblood by the showjumping stallion Emillion out of a G Ramiro Z dam line. He was also bred for showjumping but his real talent lies with dressage where his compact frame and power really pay off.
“I blame my father for Spyke! After I left University I wanted to get a young horse and it was his suggestion to go and see Spyke. At the time I thought Spyke was too inexperienced (having been broken only 3 months) and as he was gangly and awkward looking I wasn’t sure that he would turn out to be the horse that was described in the advert. However, my father was correct in suggesting him as I knew as soon as I sat on him that he was the horse for me. We went through a rocky patch when he hurt his back and had to have time off, but with thanks to our fabulous yard physio he is back better than ever. He is currently competing novice/elementary.
Cadee Van De Kiezelweg (aka Kez…the self-harmer!)
Kez is an 16.3hh Belgian warmblood by the stallion Richbourg.
“I picked up Kez on a trip to Holland as a barely broken youngster. He had no concept of canter and thought it best to just do medium trot instead! He is known as the yard self-harmer as he has only ever been to one competition in the 4 years I have had him but has managed to visit the Dick Vet hospital 3 times! Kez is probably the luckiest, unlucky horse in the world having survived colic surgery, tramua to his shoulder requiring more surgery and having a large piece of wood removed from a hind hoof and a large portion of it cut away to retrieve splinters! However, even with all these injuries and the time off for recovery he is sound and back in work, we are still to see if he has any talent!
